The unincorporated community of Channel Islands Beach is comprised of the areas known as Hollywood Beach, Hollywood-by-the-Sea, and the Silver Strand. These were so named in 1921 when Rudolph Valentino filmed The Sheik in the area in hopes of turning it into another movie colony. With a population of just more than 3,000, Channel Islands Beach is cozy and neighborly, but certainly not isolated. Oxnard, population of 170,000, is just one mile away, while Los Angeles, population of nearly 4 million, is just 60 miles away and Malibu is but a 30 minute drive down a particularly scenic portion of the Pacific Coast Highway. There are fewer than 2,000 housing units in Channel Islands Beach, but almost every residential property offers something special: an unobstructed view of the Pacific Ocean, the Channel Islands, or the harbor lights, or perhaps a back door that opens to the sand.
Recreational opportunities are many in Channel Islands Beach. You can find boating, diving, kayaking and fishing in and around Channel Islands Harbor. There are also surfing and sailing schools and clubs located throughout Ventura County. Area beaches offer many choices for a romantic walk or a brisk ocean swim. Hollywood Beach, lined with homes, is beautiful and laid back. Silver Strand Beach, popular with surfers, is a great summer hangout destination. Other places to visit include Peninsula Park, La Jenelle Park and the Ventura County Maritime Museum.
